As TempleCon 2011 draws closer it's time to begin getting you acquainted with the guest presenters and personalities who help make TempleCon such an unforgettable temporal excursion. To that end we bring you our first Guest Spotlight for TempleCon 2011 featuring Ay-leen the Peacemaker, who is co-presenting the panels Steampunk Around the World: Steampunk Beyond Victoriana and Envisioning a Better Steam Society: Social Issues and Steampunk.
Ay-leen the Peacemaker is the founding editor of Beyond Victoriana, a blog about multicultural steampunk. Ay-leen has been involved with the steampunk communities in New York City and the New England areas as a con presenter and a general rabble-rouser with The Wandering Legion of the Thomas Tew. She has spoken about issues of race & gender in steampunk at conventions such as the Steampunk World's Faire 2010. Her academic essay on steampunk fashion, co-written with Jha Goh, will be published in the anthology Fashion Talks: Undressing the Power of Style, edited by Shira Tarrant and published by SUNY Press. She has also been interviewed about steampunk and its evolving subculture for Tor.com and the Fall 2010 upcoming books The Steampunk Bible (Abrams Image) and Steampunk: Reloaded (Tachyon Publications). Currently, Ay-leen lives and works in New York City.
