Other Events for TempleCon 2008
Weekend-long costume contest!
As we have previously mentioned, TempleCon 2008 is featuring a steampunk-themed costume contest, but unlike the standard Saturday-only costume contests of many conventions, this one lasts all weekend long. Why? We want this year's steampunk theme to be something that affects all aspects of the con, and we want to encourage people to immerse themselves in that delicious steampunk flavor! (Engine grease? Old books!? Brass polish?!?) What it really amounts to is that we don't want the steampunk visual to be something that gets trotted out on Saturday night and snoozes for the rest of the con. We want to see steampunk from Friday morning to Sunday night, and perhaps inspire each other to take some lasting interest in this genre home with us all after the con.

So here's the deal: Wear your fabulous steampunk best, and feel free to change it up throughout the weekend. Each day, our on-staff costume judges will be patrolling the convention areas, keeping our eyes peeled for the very finest of walking steampunk visions, those creative ladies and gentlemen who push the boundaries of technological anachronisms to the hilt. Those contestants who catch our eyes will be approached and their badge information recorded, with the winner being chosen at the end of the day. One winner will be chosen for each day of the convention, and an over-all winner will be chosen for the entire weekend.

Miniatures painting contest!
What could be more steampunk than warjacks? :) And the height of steampunk is that sense of invention and creativity that leads us to experiment with colour and form, to go above and beyond the purely utilitarian, and make something both beautiful and functional. To that end, we bring you the TempleCon miniatures painting contest. Bring your most masterfully painted miniatures to the Art Room to be displayed throughout the weekend in our locked display case, and judged over the weekend by TempleCon staff and Guests of Honor. Trophies will be awarded for Best Small Miniature, Best Large Miniature, and Best Unit.
